Dr Xing Li is Research Team Leader of the Excavating and Drilling team in CSIRO’s Mining & Processing Technologies Research Group. The role of this team is to develop excavating and drilling technologies that will help mining industry deal with the challenge of mechanical hard rock excavation. Xing received his PhD in Mechanical and Material Engineering from the Curtin University in 1994, and joined CSIRO in the same year. Xing’s research experience with the CSIRO spans over 20 years. He has played a key role in development of the SMART*CUT technology. Xing's research interests lie in the area of mechanical excavation, cutting tool design, tool wear mechanisms, cutting drum design, superhard materials for cutting tool application, characterization of advanced diamond composite, assessment of drill bit performance and development of hard rock cutting equipment and method.
